Featured Guitar

This guitar was spec'd by Eric 'Roscoe' Ambel. He knows Teles and he knows tone. He owns several Teles, both vintage and custom built. This is Roscoe's vision of the the perfect one--it embodies the best features of all of his teles into one guitar. When I first met with Roscoe to discuss the design I showed him a couple of hotrodded designs I had built and he told me to 'backup' and simplify--because that is exactly what makes a Tele so happening. "Just look at the things that make it cool and accentuate them!" Sound advice indeed. Shouldering one of these at a gig makes a statement--forget the smoke and mirrors and stand back, 'cause I came here to play!

Hear this guitar on Steve Earle's Grammy winning album "The Revolution Starts...Now", available on Artemis Records.

Here's what Roscoe has to say about his Stonetree:

"The Stonetree guitar is a handmade instrument. It’s not a collection of parts. It plays and feels like a brand new old guitar. It’s got a boatload of character. It plays like a fine acoustic, it sings when it’s unplugged. The Stonetree has made me want to play it from the first time I picked it up and it just keeps feeling better."

A unique feature on this guitar is the custom wound Fralin pickups. The traditional bridge pickup has tons of beef and twang, while the P-90 neck pickup is fat and warm--not thin or weak. The neck is underwound to match the output of bridge and hum canceling in the middle position. The end result is an extremely versatile 2 pickup guitar that is outstanding for many styles of music.

Most of our customers order this with a modern compound fingerboard and medium/tall frets, but Roscoe prefers the vintage radius and fretwire, high action and .012"-.056" strings...as Roscoe says, "Resistance is a good thing!"

Recent member to the club is Mark McKay. Roscoe produced Mark's latest album 'Shimmer' and turned him onto the magic of the Stonetree. Upon receiving the instrument, Mark had this to say, "The axe arrived today...wow. I have never played such an exquisitely balanced and ballsy instrument....I can't put it down....thanks to the two of you for envisioning it and building it."      Now it is your turn...
